Kazakhstan PSP project (2004-present)
Foto's are found here!
In 2003 the Dutch company Van der Ploeg International / Difco International started a PSO-project in Kazakhstan with a total budget of EUR 436.720. Almost two years later, this has resulted in a EUR 14 million contract.
At the end of 2002, the Dutch company Van der Ploeg International / Difco International won a PSO-project, "PSO02/KZ/1/6 Improvement of efficiency in the poultry chain". The project goal was to realise a commercial feasible and efficient poultry production chain in Kazakhstan with attention to animal welfare and the environment. During the first year of the project the original Kazakh partner turned out not to be sufficiently committed to the project. At the end of 2003, Van der Ploeg therefore decided to change partners, as they kept believing in the challenges the upcoming Kazakh poultry sector had to offer.
At the beginning of 2004, they found a new project partner which they had already known for several years: KazRos Trade House. KazRos made the strategic decision to start local poultry production and she therefore welcomed the PSO-project. The project takes place at an integration of ten stables consisting of 200,000 broilers.
During the inception phase, it became clear that the ambitions of Kazros were bigger than re-equipping the old production site of 10 stables. This integration will consist of 72 broiler stables, 16 parent stock stables and 8 rearing stables with a yearly output of 25 million broilers.
At the end of 2004, KazRos announced the good news that Van der Ploeg was awarded a EUR 14 million contract. The Kazakh company and its Dutch partners arranged the finance through the credit insurance scheme of Atradius, approved mid May, 2005.
Exported equipment to Kazakhstan:

S.C. Roneda S.A., Romania (1992-2001)
As compensation for a delivery of 5.000 heifers to the Romanian State Property Fund, Van der Ploeg International BV took part in a farm at Naïpu, called the Roneda project (Romanian-Netherlands Dairy).
The farm was old fashioned and in desperate need of capital and know-how to optimise the production. Therefore the buildings were renovated in 1992. The old tie-up system was transformed into a free housing system. A total capacity for milk production at the Roneda Farm of 500 dairy cows. Two new, modern milking parlours were installed, which are both connected with a modern computer system, recording and analysing the daily milk production. This system also provides all other detailed management information. For the processing of the milk Van der Ploeg International BV installed a small dairy processing plant on the farm. This plant is standardising, pasteurising and packing the milk and cream.
While Van der Ploeg International BV was starting up the Roneda project, they were also involved in the privatisation of SC Prodas SA, a state procurement organisation. Van der Ploeg International BV was interested in the Prodas project, because of its distribution channels by which the produced milk of the Roneda project could be sold. Therefore Van der Ploeg International BV obtained thirty eight percent of the shares in SC Prodas SA.
The Roneda project, which was started in 1992, has been very successful in producing milk products of very high quality.
The McDonald's organisation recognised these qualities and selected Van der Ploeg International BV as a reliable partner for the production of their Shake and Sundae mixes. The production of these products has been accommodated to the Roneda dairy processing plant ever since.

The first project in Iraq (1976-1979)
Van der Ploeg International B.V. was the first company based in the Netherlands that obtained a contract in the agricultural sector from the Iraqi government.
The contract amounted up to 40 Million USD.
The main objective of the contract was to develop a turnkey dairy farm complex near Baghdad.
Besides the delivery of 800 heads of high quality dairy cows and the milk processing equipment, Van der Ploeg International was also responsible for the selection of all employees and for organizing the management team.
The contract spanned a time frame of 3 years: 1976-1979. During these years, the Dutch management team achieved a high productivity, even under the sometimes hard and difficult climatic circumstances. Sometimes the temperature was over 55 degrees Celsius. In spite of these tough circumstances, the Dutch management team achieved an unprecedented milk production level, higher than that of the contemporary dairy farmer in the Netherlands.
This technical success was partly due to the outstanding fodder production.
High-quality fodder is very important for optimising milk production, just as a first class and climatically optimized housing system and a good management.
